Welsh day for lovers

Welsh love tokens

Welsh love tokens

Today (January 25th) is St Dwynwen’s Day the Welsh patron saint of lovers (like St Valentine’s Day)

‘Cariad’ is the Welsh word for love. Welsh suitors would carve a wooden spoon to give as a love token. Some of these spoons were highly symbolic and intricately carved. So much more of a gesture than flowers as it took many hours and not a little skill to achieve the finished object.

2023 has been interesting so far. The rain has caused the Elan Valley dams to overflow spectacularly.

Lots of hungry birds visiting, and some cold but clear sunny days have made for excellent walking.
